Omas

A short history of Omas brand:

OMAS fountain pens were founded in 1925 in Bologna, Italy, by Armando Simoni, who established the company "Officina Meccanica Armando Simoni," abbreviated as OMAS. Initially, before formally founding OMAS, Simoni had a workshop since 1919 producing pen parts for other manufacturers. He then expanded to making complete pens at his own factory starting in 1925. OMAS gained early recognition for innovation and quality, such as their 1927 "penna del dottore" — a lever-filler fountain pen with a built-in clinical thermometer. Throughout its history, OMAS was notable for elegant, luxury pens often made with classic materials like celluloid, hard rubber, and precious metals, and designs featuring faceted barrels and Greek key motifs. The brand introduced pioneering pens, including models with a double nib, and later the 360 model (launched in 1996) with a triangular body designed for writing comfort. Ownership of OMAS changed hands several times after Simoni’s death, including acquisition by French luxury group LVMH in 2000 and later by Hong Kong-based Hengdeli Holdings in 2007, followed by Chinese ownership. The company was liquidated in 2016 but revived in 2023. OMAS pens are esteemed for their craftsmanship, balanced design, use of quality materials, and a blend of classical Italian aesthetics with functional innovation. Their most iconic lines include the 12-faceted Paragon and the Ogiva. The brand has a loyal following and represents a significant part of Italian fountain pen history. In short, OMAS is a nearly century-old Italian luxury pen maker founded by Armando Simoni, known for craftsmanship, innovative designs, and a legacy of elegant fountain pens, with a revival continuing its heritage today.
