Tiffany & Co.

A short history of Tiffany & Co. brand:

Tiffany & Co., founded in 1837 in New York City originally as a stationery and fancy goods emporium, eventually became famous primarily for jewelry and luxury goods rather than manufacture of its own fountain pens[1][4][5]. The company was named Tiffany & Co. officially in 1853 when Charles Tiffany took control and shifted focus more on jewelry and fine crafts. As for fountain pens, Tiffany & Co. itself has not been historically prominent as a pen manufacturer. However, the company has been involved in collaborations, such as a notable partnership with Pelikan in 1990 when Pelikan produced the M817 and M818 "Atlas" pens for Tiffany & Co., which were luxury fountain pens built off Pelikan’s M800 chassis but with distinct Tiffany branding and design elements. These pens reflected Tiffany’s luxury aesthetic combined with Pelikan’s craftsmanship. Tiffany has historically been recognized for luxury, artistry, and design in jewelry and related accessories, and while it sells high-end writing instruments, the actual production of fountain pens has typically been by established pen manufacturers partnering with Tiffany or selling pens under the Tiffany brand. Tiffany’s legacy lies more in its jewelry, silver, and luxury goods history dating back to the mid-19th century, including innovations in silver standards and famous design commissions.. **In summary:** - Tiffany & Co. started as a stationery and fancy goods store in 1837 but became mainly a luxury jewelry and silver company. - It is not known as an original fountain pen manufacturer but has collaborated with pen brands such as Pelikan (notably the 1990 Atlas pens). - Tiffany-branded pens are typically luxury collaborations or branded items, reflecting the company’s prestigious image. - The company’s historic significance is more rooted in luxury goods and jewelry innovations than pen manufacturing.
