Aurora

A short history of Aurora brand:
The Aurora pen brand was founded in 1919 in Turin, Italy, by Isaia Levi, a wealthy textile merchant who wanted to create Italy’s first industrial fountain pen manufacturer. The company was named "Fabbrica Italiana Penne a Serbatoio Aurora" and initially produced hard rubber pens inspired by American designs, focusing on quality and functionality. During the Fascist regime, the company emphasized its domestic production advantage to avoid customs duties.
Aurora expanded in the late 1920s to other European markets, increasing production and model variety. World War II caused major disruption when the factory was bombed in 1943, forcing relocation within Turin. After the war, in 1947, Aurora launched its most iconic model, the "Aurora 88," designed by Marcello Nizzolli, which sold over 5 million units and remained in production into the 1970s. The company introduced innovations such as the "Duo Cart" cartridge pen in 1954, which featured a linked dual cartridge system with an indicator ball for ink levels.
In the 1960s, Aurora was acquired by the Verona family, under whose leadership it produced notable designs such as the "Hastil," designed by Marco Zanuso and displayed at New York’s Museum of Modern Art. Aurora continues today as a family-run business emphasizing quality craftsmanship, Italian design heritage, and expanding into luxury leather goods and watches alongside writing instruments.
In summary, Aurora’s history is distinguished by its founding post-WWI in Turin, resilience through WWII destruction, the success of models like the Aurora 88 and Hastil, and ongoing family stewardship that blends tradition with design innovation.
