Big Ben

A short history of Big Ben brand:
The Big Ben pen brand originated from the Benzon Trading Company, founded in 1922 in Denmark by Niels Benzon. Benzon initially imported Wahl-Eversharp pens from the USA to Scandinavia and held exclusive importing rights. Due to import restrictions and shortages of Wahl-Eversharp pens around 1933, Benzon started producing their own line of pens called Big Ben in Sweden, alongside other brands like Benco in Denmark.
These pens were sold exclusively in Denmark, often through the specialty store Fyldepenne Magasinet.
Big Ben pens were produced with a variety of filling mechanisms, including piston fillers and button fillers, and came in multiple colors and materials. Some models featured nibs from German manufacturers like Peter Bock, and certain parts were produced or patented in Germany, such as a unique reverse piston filler made by H. Hebborn & Co. in Heidelberg. The brand had active advertisement campaigns in Danish magazines and even promoted itself with wooden pen replicas for store displays during the 1930s and 1940s.
In summary, Big Ben pens were Danish-made fountain pens stemming from import challenges that led the Benzon Trading Company to manufacture their own line in the mid-1930s, combining Scandinavian retail exclusivity with German components and patented filling innovations.
Benco pens were part of a competitive Danish pen market in the 1930s to 1950s, where the Benzon company made Benco pens in Sweden. The company produced models similar to other brands such as Skribent for local dealers and had various nib sizes and pen colors.
In summary, Benco pens are historical Scandinavian pen products linked to the Benzon Trading Company with production rooted in the mid-20th century, complementing other Danish pen brands like Big Ben and Penol
